# Collect emails from Instagram DMs


Forms lose people. Asking for an email inside the conversation doesn't. Here's how.

## Steps

1. **Pick an offer.** A guide, catalogue or price list works best.
2. **Open the Collect Emails template.** Go to **Automations → Templates → Collect emails**.
3. **Set the trigger.** A comment keyword like `GUIDE`, or a DM keyword.
4. **Write the question.** Ask plainly: "What's the best email to send it to?" Email validation is already switched on.
5. **Keep the lead tag.** Everyone who answers is tagged as a lead.
6. **Turn it on.** New emails appear on each contact under **Contacts**.

## What happens with a typo

If someone types `name@gmail`, they get a polite "that doesn't look complete" and another try. Only valid emails are saved.

## Getting the list out

Export contacts or a segment to CSV at any time and import them into your email tool.

## Q: Can I collect phone numbers instead?

A: Yes. Choose phone validation in the question step. Numbers like 98XXXXXXXX and +977 98XXXXXXXX are both accepted.

## Q: Does Awwtomation sync emails to my email platform?

A: Not automatically. Export to CSV and import the file into your email or CRM tool.
