# Ask people to follow before sending a link


When a reel reaches people who don't follow you, a follow check turns views into followers.

## Steps

1. **Open the Follow to unlock template.** Go to **Automations → Templates → Follow to unlock**.
2. **Set the keyword and post.** Choose the reel you're promoting.
3. **Write the follower message.** This DM carries your link.
4. **Write the request.** One friendly line asking them to follow, with the **I'm following** button kept in.
5. **Turn it on.** Tell people: "Follow and comment GUIDE."

## How the check works

When someone comments, Awwtomation checks whether they follow you. Followers get the link straight away. Everyone else gets your request and a button that runs the check again once they've followed.

## Q: Is this allowed on Instagram?

A: Yes. Checking follow status through Meta's API and asking people to follow is allowed. Keep the reward worth it.

## Q: Does it work on Facebook Pages?

A: No. Follow checks are available for Instagram only.
